Thyatira: Undiscerning Love
Revelation 2:18-29
October 8, 2017
In remembering the sermon, answer these questions:
What five things does Jesus commend them for in verse 19? What did that look like (in a good way) in terms of their service to their community?
How did the industrial and commercial economy in Thyatira provide a temptation toward idolatry and immorality?
Why does Jesus identify the false prophetess as “Jezebel”? And in what ways was she leading the church astray?
Take some time to meditate on the same truth in these verses:
Isaiah 5:20-23; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 2 Corinthians 11:14; Ephesians 2:2; 1 John 2:15-17
As God's Word exposes my heart, what does this mean for my life?
“A new Decalogue has been adopted by the neo-Christians of our day, ‘Thou shalt not disagree’; And a new set of Beatitudes too, ‘Blessed are they that tolerate everything, for they shall not be made accountable - for anything.’ ” — Tozer
In what subtle ways does the devil tempt us to flirt with the “deep things of Satan”?
In what ways have we been influenced by the spirit of tolerance?
How do we grow in discerning love? What is the balance between speaking the truth and speaking it in love? (c.f. Ephesians 4:15)
